This design was initially created as part of a poster to bring awareness to a virtual conference being held by Where Are The Black Designers, an initiative which aims to give a platform to creatives of color. By connecting designers, educators, and creative leaders, Where Are The Black Designers hopes to spark a dialogue about change both within and outside the design industry.
Many of my peers loved this design in particular, and being both an artist and a graphic designer, I decided to utilize the craft(s) that I love in order to aid in making a change in the world. I'm a big believer in that educating both Black and non-black people on on Black history is a major key in dismantling both systematic and interpersonal racism, so that is why I have selected The Black Curriculum as my charity of choice to donate 50% of this campaign's funds to. The Black Curriculum is a social enterprise founded in 2019 by young people to address the lack of Black British history in the UK Curriculum.
