No one really knows why we say “LOVE ALL” when the score is zero-zero in table tennis. Is it about “playing for love” rather than money? Does it come from the French “l’oeuf” (meaning “egg”), seeing as the number 0’s pretty egg-shaped?
Whatever it is, we always dug the double meaning.
“LOVE ALL” – what a sentiment.
This week, the head of the UN’s agency supporting Palestinian refugees claimed “the world has lost its humanity.” While condemning Hamas’ attack on Israel, Philippe Lazzarini said: “The answer to killing civilians cannot be to kill more civilians.”
We keep going back to those two words: LOVE ALL. Now more than ever, it feels fitting to print them in a massive typeface on the back of a tee. As in table tennis, as in life.
