#TacklingHomelessness with Emmanuel House

Emmanuel House

Emmanuel House supports people who are homeless, rough sleeping, in crisis, or at risk of homelessness in Nottingham.

Designed by NTU Fashion Design student Sian Slaney.

We’re excited to be launching a #TacklingHomelessness t-shirt campaign in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University to raise vital funds for our Winter Appeal.

In November 2021, the Nottingham School of Art & Design asked its students to enter a design competition in collaboration with long-standing charity partner Emmanuel House. The brief asked students to design a ‘#TacklingHomelessness’ t-shirt with a sporting theme, which could be printed and sold as our first piece of commissioned clothing.

The money raised from the sales of the t-shirt will go towards Emmanuel House’s Winter Appeal. One of the services funded by the Winter Appeal is the Access Team, which is based at Emmanuel House in Hockley, where it helps meet the basic needs of people who are homeless or rough sleeping.

The drop-in is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, offering a blend of basic services and focused one-to-one support appointments. Working with around 100 individuals each month, the service offers hot food, clothing, laundry, showers, a barber, a nurse, a care of address and support, as well as meaningful activities such as cooking classes and guitar lessons. These services are fundamental for the prevention of and recovery out of homelessness.

Emmanuel House will receive almost £10 for the sale of every t-shirt. This £10 will enable us to meet a homeless person for the first time, assess their needs and make a plan for support.

  • If 5 people order a t-shirt, a support worker is able to attend a specialist appointment with someone who is homeless.
  • If 10 people order a t-shirt, it will provide a package of support for someone in crisis, including showers, clean clothes, hot food, care of address and specialist advice.
  • If 50 people order a t-shirt, we can provide someone with 6 months’ worth of homelessness prevention and one-to-one tenancy support for someone who is in crisis.

The design is also available on a tote bag: https://www.weareprintsocial.com/campaigns/tacklinghomelessness-tote-with-emmanuel-house

Please note, the photos were modelled with a sample t-shirt, which was screen printed, so we expect the final versions to be clearer and brighters.
