UNITY is a collaborative project between SEASON zine and eight football creatives celebrating what UNITY in the game means to them.
MANTRA Sport is the creative practice of Dawn Broadbent. Dawn graduated with First Class Honours in Graphic Design from the University of West England in 2018, and now lives and works just outside of London. With recreational sport dominating much of her personal life from a very young age, Dawn’s curiosity for its pertinence in our everyday lives naturally fed into her professional work. Subsequently, she decided to dedicate her creative practice to exploring the intersection between sport and culture. And so, MANTRA Sport was born.
‘In terms of the design details, staying true to my artistic style I wanted to use a bold digital typeface. Goudy Heavyface has a bold aesthetic, but its rounded-edges offer a subtle gentleness and friendliness. When exploring the idea of containing the typeface within a shape, it seemed only fitting that it’s the rectangular shape of the football pitch. I explored a gradient - fusing the typical forest green colour of the pitch with neon pink. Pink is universally associated with femininity. And to align with everything that SEASON stands for, I wanted to fuse the two contrasting colours together to represent the notion of unity and acceptance.’ Dawn Broadbent
