UNITY is a collaborative project between SEASON zine and eight football creatives celebrating what UNITY in the game means to them.
Corbin Shaw’s work explores the performance of masculinity in heteronormative spaces dominated by men. He makes work from his own personal experiences growing up in spaces such as football grounds, boxing gyms, and his dad’s metal fabrication workplace. He looks at the rites of passage of manhood in England, By documenting the spaces and then making work from them. Corbin aims to understand his own idea of masculinity, and what masculinity means to people in similar environments. Corbin's work usually materialises as textiles and sculpture.
‘My design was very much inspired by the phenomenon of the NHS Sports Banger t-shirt, which became a new symbol of national pride, often being hung from windows as if it were a flag. A new symbol of hope. I hope my t-shirt can hold a similar dual purpose and represent a time when we all need to come together more than ever.’ Corbin Shaw
Corbin is donating 50% of his t-shirt profit to NHS Charities Together.
