'Pay Attention To Your Masks' by Beile Yu

In nowadays, masks have become a necessity for people’s lives. However, it protects us but on the other hand, it also endangers the ecological environment and threatens the life safety of other animals. According to statistics, the current global daily consumption of masks reached 1 billion at the highest level. If 1% of all masks are mishandled, 10 million discarded masks are a threat to the environment every day. According to the December 2020 report of the ASO(Asian Sea Organization), a total of 52 billion masks were produced globally in 2020, and at least 1.56 billion masks were discarded. These masks are equivalent to 4680-6240 tons of plastic waste, and it takes at least 400-500 years for them to be degraded naturally, so they will not disappear completely in a short time. The pain of wildlife, a photographer captured such a picture: on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a small monkey's neck was tightly restrained by a mask strap; Brazilian rescuers found a flightless macaw, its mouth and head have been tangled in mask lanyards for up to a week. My T-shirt designs focus on wild animals that are tangled by masks, the masks that save people bring disaster to them. I hope people can pay more attention to assort their masks through my work.
