Crisis

In 21st century Britain, everybody should have a place to live. Every year Crisis supports thousands of people who are experiencing homelessness. 2020 was a tough year for many of us and reminded us of how much we depend on each other for connection, hope and support in difficult times; and of the importance of a safe and secure home. The way our services worked may have been different, but our determination to be there for those who need us and to give hope for a future away from homelessness has not changed.

People who are homeless continue to be hit especially hard by the coronavirus outbreak. It’s hard to protect yourself from the pandemic when you’re homeless. People who are sleeping rough are more likely to suffer from respiratory conditions. They can’t wash their hands. And if someone is sleeping rough or in a crowded night shelter, it’s impossible to self-isolate.

Now, at the start of a new year, we are getting ready to help people again and to continue to work together to offer the support needed to see people’s homelessness ended for good. There’s only one thing that’s certain in these uncertain times: it’s time to pull together and help each other.

DesignbyWomxn aims to celebrate, empower, and promote female and non-binary creatives currently working in the design industry and to inspire women wanting to pursue a career in design. Although around 70% of today’s design graduates are female, women make up only around 11% of senior and leadership team roles. This clearly highlights the gender inequality within the creative industries. We hope that by showcasing work by women and sharing their insights and stories we can encourage collaboration and mutual support for those at all stages of their careers.

We chose the quote, ‘Together we can do much,’ by author, humanitarian, and activist Helen Keller (1880-1968) because it reflects our sense of community. By coming together to help and support one another we can achieve better outcomes whatever the situation may be.
