Hiya, my name is Jaz and I’m an illustrator and designer living in Nottingham, UK.
I’ve designed this t-shirt to raise money for the Black Lives Matter movement. In the last few weeks I’ve been trying to educate myself to further understand the extent of the problems and i felt i needed to do something to help the cause. It’s been heartbreaking to see yet another act of police brutality cut short someone’s life and I’ve have been inspired by the determination and commitment that the black community have shown. Nobody should have to feel unsafe in their own communities, especially by people that are there to protect them.
I think it’s really important that younger generations are taught Black History, not just for one day but all year round. The white dominated history lessons are excluding a huge chapter of history. Education is such a powerful tool to fight against racism which is why 100% of the profits of this t-shirt will be donated to The Black Curriculum. Which is a social enterprise working to educate and support the teaching of Black History all year round.
