Wear this exclusive T-shirt and help Vanessa Nakate’s Green Schools Project.
A T-shirt featuring exclusive artwork by designer and illustrator Diana Ejaita, produced in collaboration with Where the Leaves Fall and climate activist Vanessa Nakate, is now available for purchase, with all profits going to the Green Schools Project, a renewable energy initiative that aims to transition schools in Uganda to solar energy.
Diana, who has created cover art for magazines including Vanity Fair and The New Yorker and founded fashion brand wearyourmask, was commissioned for the second issue of WtLF to illustrate an essay written by Vanessa, and it is this exclusive artwork that will be featured on the clothing. In the essay, Vanessa writes: "Climate change is a topic that doesn’t interest many people in my country. In fact, they always ask me why I waste my time demanding action because the government will not do anything about it - they already have negative expectations. Africa cannot afford to choose between addressing climate change and promoting development because the two are interconnected. Every African has a right to a healthy environment."
The T-shirts retails at £18 and are available in a range of colours and sizes. They are produced by Stanley/Stella, using responsibly and ethically-produced Global Organic Textile Standard certified organic cotton. They are also printed to order so there is no wastage. Vanessa says: “I think it is a great idea because by this more schools can be funded through the profits to have installations.”
By purchasing and wearing the T-shirt, you will not only be helping to fund the Green School Project, but also helping raise awareness of the need for action now on the climate crisis.
