On April the 9th 2019, my Brother Craig got up in the early hours of the morning, left his house quietly as not to disturb his house mates and his best friend that was staying over, walked to the woods nearby, and killed himself. He was 30 years old. He didn’t leave any notes or explanation of why he had decided to end his life, it was just over before we had even realised he was gone.
He has left his partner without her Soul Mate, his dog without a Master. SUCH a loving brother to me and my sister, Mum and Dad have lost their only boy and Friend to scores of heartbroken people, all asking ourselves why and how this could have happened.
We knew that he struggled with depression, having tried twice before to end his life, but we pushed them aside as ‘cries for help’. How stupid we were to believe him when he would grin, have a laugh and convince us that all was ok and the he really was on top of things. He ticked all the boxes of what is perceived as success; long-term relationship, house, car, job the he loved AND a dog… so what went wrong?
I have been working with Print Social to design a print that will donate 50% of the cost of making these to the charity CALM, which deals with suicide and Campaigns Against Living Miserably. You may already support charities, but if Mental Health and Suicide in particular is something that's affected you, this is a great way to donate to them.
I thought it was important to share this with you all, having lost someone so wonderful, so perfect and full of joy for me and my children. If there is someone in your life who you even have the tiniest inkling may need your help, love and support. Share this with them, tell them you love them and you will do anything absolutely ANYTHING that they need to get them on track to find their happiness. I will regret not doing this with my darling Craig forever.
